Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve—the longest nerve in your body—becomes compressed or irritated. This often happens due to conditions such as herniated discs, bulging discs, or spinal misalignments. Common symptoms include:

• Sharp pain radiating from the lower back through the buttocks and down the leg
• Tingling, numbness, or “pins and needles” in the leg or foot
• Weakness or difficulty moving the leg or foot
• Pain that worsens with sitting, coughing, or bending
